Technology in the Classroom:

Whether you have 1 or 12 computers in your classroom this concept is fairly new to most of us. This article was created to share ideas which have been helpful to us.
Do you repeat steps for certain computer procedures over and over? You can stop your students' frustrations and save your sanity by typing steps for each procedure on individual cards. After initial instruction of steps needed for each procedure students can use these cards as a reminders of all steps. Make steps as simple as possible. Use shortcuts such as double-clicking when possible. I keep these color coded laminated cards on a ring by each computer. For example, when students need to retrieve a document from the server, I just tell my students to use the pink card and students get to work. Many students memorize the steps, but feel confident knowing that they can always look at the card if they need to. The cards I have are: Connecting to the Server, Saving a document to the Server, Retrieving your saved document, and Taking an Accelerated Reader Quiz. You can modify these instruction cards to fit your computer needs.
